“I can almost see it/ that dream I’m dreaming but/ there’s a voice inside my head saying/ you’ll never reach it” (Anyone recognize those lyrics?)
Last week, this song (The Climb by Miley Cyrus) was a MOOD. I was feeling really really discouraged, unmotivated and unsure of what to do with my life. I want this blog post to serve as a reminder that THAT’S OKAY!
As mentioned in my blog post “Goals For 2109“, I’m attempting to finish my college degree in England. There’s a lot that can go wrong before I can actually go to school there, but I’m trying my best to stay motivated and keep a positive attitude. I’m surrounded by negativity most days and don’t have many true friends, but my coworkers are an honest blessing. I told a few of them about how discouraged I was feeling recently, and we talked about why I was feeling that way, and why I was wrong to feel that way.
Of course I was a little defensive at first. Woah, woah, woah. What do you mean I’m wrong to feel that way?
And then it hit me: they were right. I was SO CLOSE to just completely giving up on my lifelong dream. WHAT?!?!?! How could I even consider letting my dreams slip away like that?? I was so ready to just give up and settle for less, simply because things got difficult!
So here’s a reminder for both you and me: Things might not always be easy, but that’s okay!! DO NOT GIVE UP! There’ll always be an excuse or a reason not to do something. Don’t let that hinder you from reaching your goals!!
The day after my talk with my coworkers, the song “Breakaway” by Kelly Clarkson was stuck in my head and I haven’t heard that song in YEARS. I only knew the words to the chorus so I looked up the rest of the lyrics, and what I saw made me sob.
Basically, the song is about “breaking away” or moving away, and doing everything it takes to get to that point. Fast forward to today, I decided to watch the official music video for the song. In a portion of the video, Kelly Clarkson works in a movie theater. I’m currently working at one!! How ironic?! I feel like this song was made for me!
Anyway, if you’re working toward something and you get discouraged, it’s okay! Just don’t make it your permanent attitude.
